Expanding Children’s World Day Care into 5907-5909 N. Lincoln, Klasik Construction is executing a full gut rehabilitation of a building vacant for over a decade. Uncovering remnants of past restaurant and retail uses, our team is managing structural masonry repairs, a complete roof rebuild, and full utility modernizations. Connecting the open-concept footprint to their active facility at 5911, we are delivering a code-compliant educational environment by Spring 2027.
Klasik Construction is partnering with the ownership of Children's World Day Care to execute a comprehensive commercial expansion, extending their active, licensed facility at 5911 N. Lincoln Avenue into the adjacent 2,800-square-foot commercial building at 5907 and 5909 N. Lincoln Avenue in Chicago's Lincoln Square neighborhood. Following a patient acquisition process, the expansion allows the client to consolidate operations from an off-site satellite location while significantly increasing classroom capacity and early childhood educational offerings. Bringing an aging commercial structure into alignment with strict child-care facility licensing requires extensive structural remediation, disciplined phasing, and comprehensive MEP modernizations.
The combined 5907-5909 property brought a layered commercial history that had sat completely dormant for over a decade. During initial demolition, crews uncovered wall calendars dating back to 2014 alongside remnants of the building’s varied past as both a retail music store and a restaurant, including abandoned guitars and pianos in mint condition, a commercial cooking line hood, empty beer kegs, and a decommissioned fountain drink station. Revitalizing the long-neglected footprint required a complete interior gut down to the bare structural components to evaluate the building envelope and address years of deferred maintenance.
Transforming the dual-storefront shell demanded heavy structural overhaul and envelope restoration. Inside, Klasik is re-engineering central load-bearing masonry walls and structural steel columns from a historic combination of two storefronts, establishing a clean, open-concept floor plan designed for adaptable early childhood instruction. The scope also entails stabilizing and tuckpointing the perimeter exterior masonry walls and executing a complete flat-roof tear-off and structural timber rebuild. Utilizing the City of Chicago’s Self-Certification Permit Program to accelerate municipal approvals, Klasik prioritized the roof reconstruction to seal the building envelope before the winter freeze, protecting the underlying masonry and establishing a weather-tight environment for interior rough trades to advance uninterrupted.
Because early childhood education spaces carry rigorous life-safety and health mandates, Klasik is executing complete modern utility and service upgrades across the entire footprint. This includes upgrading electrical and plumbing services, installing high-efficiency commercial HVAC units engineered for superior ventilation and air exchange, and roughing in dedicated plumbing lines to support specialized child-height restroom banks and handwashing stations. Additionally, Klasik is engineering structural openings through the exterior masonry party walls to bridge the new open-concept classrooms directly into the operational 5911 facility without disrupting daily childcare services.
Throughout every stage of construction, Klasik Construction is delivering its signature "Concierge in Carhartt" experience, pairing technical problem-solving, phased construction to meet various targets, and unparalleled project management. By taking a commercial property abandoned for over ten years and executing a comprehensive structural overhaul, Klasik is helping Children’s World Day Care build a bright, safe, and code-compliant home for neighborhood families, scheduled for completion in Spring 2027.
